Chris Jericho underwent body transformation after near-death experience and WWE legend got so shredd

A near-death experience led to wrestling legend Chris Jericho completely transforming his diet and drop more than 30 pounds in weight.

The 51-year-old then got so shredded that people even accused him of getting ab implants.

Jericho is a veteran of the wrestling scene, having first appeared in ECW and WCW back in the 1990s and becoming a fan favourite in WWE where he was undisputed champion and three-time heavyweight champion.

His association with WWE spanned nearly two decades before making his final appearance in January 2018.

After a brief stint in Japan, he joined the newly-formed AEW and went on to become the inaugural world champion.

Jericho revealed that his weight had kept creeping up over the years and was shocked when he stepped on the scales.

“When AEW started in 2019, I was still in that mindset [of getting bigger],” he told GQ. “I didn't even realise that I was creeping up. I went to the doctor towards the end of 2019, and it was the first time I'd been on a scale for a while.

“It said I was 240. I was like, ‘240? That can’t be right!’ I remember saying to the guy, ‘Do I look like I'm 240?’ And the guy's like, [awkwardshrug] ‘I don't know.’

"That was the first time I had to realise, ‘Holy s***, I'm 240 pounds. That's big.’”

Jericho then had a medical scare at the end of 2021 while he was on tour in England with his band Fozzy.

After having breathing problems on stage he went to the doctor and found he was having a pulmonary embolism, which was blood clots in his lungs.

After getting back to the US, he was told he needed to lose weight with his body fat at 21 per cent.

He continued: “I started on January 10, and I wanted to lose 10 pounds over six weeks. Well, on this diet, I lost 11 pounds in the first week. So I said, ‘Well, this isn't super hard. Let me stay on it for a while.’

"Eight weeks later, I was down to 210 pounds. I lost 31 pounds in eight weeks.”

Jericho added: “When I lost all the weight, there was no, like, ‘Oh wow, Jericho's not fat.’ It was like, ‘Oh, he went and got ab implants! That's what he did!’”

He revealed his diet consisted of oats for breakfast, followed by small snacks and main meals with 8oz of protein and salad.

Jericho also said he drank water constantly, but still allows himself the occasional shot of vodka.

Still, he's got nothing on fellow WWE legend and now Hollywood star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

When Rocky was cast as the lead on movie 'Hercules', he was said to have eaten up to SEVEN protein-rich meals a day to get shredded for the role.

That amounts to a whopping total of 4,131 calories - basically twice the recommended average for men - and when not in training he normally eats about five meals a day.
