Nebraska football adds top 100 commitment from OL Grant Brix

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska added a key piece Tuesday to its 2024 recruiting class as offensive lineman Grant Brix of Logan, Iowa, committed to the Huskers while visiting Memorial Stadium. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Brix, 6 feet 6 and 290 pounds, picked the Huskers over Kansas State and Oklahoma. He ranks as the No. 1 prospect in Iowa, as a consensus four-star prospect and 96th nationally in the On3 industry average. He’s the second-highest-ranked member of this class for Nebraska behind tight end Carter Nelson of Ainsworth, Neb.
  • His pledge is the 27th for Nebraska in the 2024 class and the fifth from an offensive lineman. He joins Landen Davidson, Gibson Pyle, Preston Taumua and fellow Iowan Jake Peters.
  • Brix attends Logan-Magnolia High School in western Iowa, about 90 miles from Lincoln. Defensively as a senior, he recorded 16 1/2 tackles, two sacks and four tackles for losses. He finished seventh in the shot put in the smallest class at the Iowa state high school track meet as a junior.

What does a commitment from Brix mean for Nebraska?

The Huskers offered Brix early in the 2022 football season. He has remained a priority target for coach Matt Rhule’s staff in its first year on campus. Brix visited Lincoln officially in June and has returned multiple times. The process to secure him was arduous. Rhule visited Brix’s high school during the Huskers’ bye week in October. Nebraska then parked its equipment truck at his school as a show of support on a Friday last month before his last visit to Lincoln until this week.

His offer list included Iowa, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon and Alabama. That group of suitors speaks to the significance of the recruiting win for Nebraska.

Depth continues to improve up front for Nebraska, which signed five offensive linemen in its 2023 class and recently moved Jason Maciejczak and Ru’Quan Buckley from the defensive side.

The Huskers must replace at least two starters from their offensive line next year. Nouredin Nouili is out of eligibility, and fellow guard Ethan Piper, with one year left, took part in senior day festivities. Piper suffered a major knee injury on Oct. 21 in Nebraska’s victory against Northwestern.

Teddy Prochazka and Justin Evans-Jenkins, who’ve replaced injured starters on the line this year, are set to return in 2024. Right tackle Bryce Benhart, a 41-game starter, and center Ben Scott might also come back for O-line coach Donovan Raiola. Benhart and Scott did not participate Friday in senior day.
